Property description

With views of the village green to the front and open countryside to the rear, this spacious family home has been transformed by the current owners. The heart of the home is the large open-plan kitchen dining room with a central island, built-in appliances and space for a study area. Alternatively, there is a separate study ideal for working from home. The lounge has views over the rear garden. A cloakroom, cloaks area and utility complete the ground floor. Upstairs, there are four double bedrooms, including the master bedroom with beautiful en suite and dressing area. Outside, there is ample parking to the front and a large rear garden. Silsoe is ideally located for both amenities and transport links. There is a selection of local facilities, including a post office, pub restaurant, an Ofsted 'outstanding' lower school, hairdressers, village hall, Church and a new sports centre. Wrest Park country estate is within walking distance and offers stunning gardens, walks, country home and a selection of businesses. Nearby Bedford offers further facilities, including excellent schooling and a mainline train station offering regular commuter services into London within 40 minutes. Luton and Stanstead airports are also within easy reach. This stylish home would be ideal for families, couples and entertaining.

Situated on the edge of the charming village of Silsoe, enjoying views across the pretty green to the front and open countryside to the back, is Number 30a Newbury Lane, an extremely attractive family home that in recent years has been beautifully renovated by the current owners. “We moved here from London twelve years ago and i’d say it was initially the location that really attracted us, ” says Zoe. “The schools in the local area are fantastic and it’s an easy place to commute from – which is fabulous because my husband has to travel into London on a daily basis – and we just knew it would be a lovely place to bring up a family.”

“The house itself was very nice when we bought it, but we could see that it had huge potential to be enhanced further, and in recent years i’d say that we’ve more than realised that potential. The layout originally consisted of a number of smaller rooms, so we’ve opened it up to increase the feeling of light and space and generally make it much more conducive to modern living. The dining room, for instance, was quite spacious whereas the kitchen was a small galley, so we swapped the two rooms over and opened them up to create a lovely big family space. We also added an opening from the kitchen into the living room so the two spaces feel less disconnected; that’s a feature I love because not only can I keep an eye on the children, but I can also relax on the sofa while my husband prepares dinner and we’re still able to chat.”

“We’ve designed the garden to be adult, child and dog friendly, so there are sections for all, ” continues Zoe. “There’s a nice patio just outside the living room, a play area for the children and a white picket fence sections off the area where we have a summerhouse and a small pond. The garden is a feature of the property that we’ve all fully enjoyed.”

“The kitchen is definitely the hub of the home, ” says Zoe, “everything goes on in there. It’s a lovely big sociable space that’s great for family life and entertaining.”

“Coming from London I love the sense of community within the village and the fact that people will actually say hello, ” says Zoe. “We have great schools close by, a good selection of shops and amenities in the local area and we also have the most amazing Indian restaurant just up the road that delivers. What more could you want?”

“My walk-in wardrobe is something that i’ll definitely miss when we move, ” says Zoe. “It was last year’s project and I love it. The master bedroom suite as a whole is gorgeous and a real haven away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the house.”

“We’ve turned what was a very nice house into a beautiful home, so it will be very hard to leave, ” says Zoe. “However, times move on and we want to be closer to our family. I’m sure its new owners will love it every bit as much as we have.”
