Homeowners are being urged to consider investing in under-floor heating which can be particularly beneficial for those with small homes.
According to HETAS, the official body recognised by the government to approve solid fuel domestic heating appliances, fuels and services, this type of heat is "an excellent solution" for people who have limited space.
Chief executive Bruce Allen said: "Used in the right circumstances, under-floor heating can be very good.
"Appliances using any of the appropriate fuels or energy sources can offer hot water that feeds into a properly controlled under-floor heating system; it's not exclusive to any one fuel or other."
He added that homeowners who have no space for radiators or those who do not want the wall space taken up are likely to benefit the most.
Mr Allen also said that under the right circumstances, under-floor heating can be "equally effective" in both new developments and existing properties.
