Women in the UK own more homes than men, even though they still earn far less money on average, a study has shown.

A survey from Fairinvestment has found that 44 per cent of women are homeowners and are paying a mortgage, while the same can be said for 37 per cent of men.

This is despite women being far less likely to afford house prices as they earn 25 per cent less in wages than men.

Sharon Bratley, a chartered financial planner at Fairinvestment, commented: "It is interesting that more women than men have a mortgage, especially considering they are earning significantly less.

"But the fact that women are buying their own homes reflects the fact that more women are choosing to have a career which enables them to buy a home."

She also suggested that women could be better at managing their cash in order to afford property prices as well as the possibility that many more men are waiting for the right time to buy.

New research from Everywoman and NatWest has found that 88 per cent of women – 14 per cent higher than men - expect business to grow in the next five years.ADNFCR-1286-ID-18883364-ADNFCR
