Property description
It was a chance find, for the current owners, when they came across 7 Church Drive in Lytham seven years ago. “We were immediately struck by how beautiful the property is and of its unbeatable location, ” they say.
The house is tucked away down a private drive with just a few other prestigious properties for neighbours. It’s a 15 minute walk to the historic centre of Lytham and five minutes from Lytham Green. “We have loved its secluded and tranquil position, ” they add. “It feels as if we’re deep in the countryside, yet we’re close to the hub of this elegant town.”
This property was built in 1987 and the current owners readily acknowledge that it is an ideal family home. They have altered the house in recent years and a focal point is now the large and impressive family room created from the existing dining room, lounge and kitchen. This room has two sets of double doors – one to the front and the other out to the rear patio. “This part of the house works so well and when the family was altogether it was very much the central focus of our home, ” they say.
“We’ve also got a formal lounge and a formal dining room, plus two utility rooms and a beautiful sun room which perfectly captures the light and has lovely views of the garden. From here, we have an unrivalled view of all the visiting wildlife, including pheasants, a peacock and a huge variety of other birds. We feel very privileged being in a position to watch them so closely and we’ve certainly never lived anywhere else where there are such a large number of wild visitors.”
The games room, indoor swimming pool and sauna have added to the couple’s enjoyment of 7 Church Drive. “My husband uses the pool daily, ” says the owner, “and I too, use it regularly. Plus of course it’s fabulous to have when we’re entertaining friends and family.” The house can easily absorb plenty of guests with four bedrooms in the main part of the house and a fifth bedroom in a part of the property which was once used as an annexe. “There is great flexibility in the way this house can be used and a future owner would have little problem in recreating an annexe for a dependent relative, or as a teenage retreat.”
The house is surrounded by an established garden with mature shrubs and trees. This has been given the same attention to detail as the house, and has changed considerably since the current owners took it on. “We have made the lawn larger, planted plenty of flower borders and built a patio, ” they explain. “We really enjoy the garden and have designed it so that there is interest all year round. There is a particular burst of colour in spring with the thousands of bulbs we have planted and the early summer flowering shrubs.
Close to the house is Lytham Green and adjacent to that is Lowther Gardens – one of the town’s most beautiful park areas. “We’re spoilt for choice when it comes to walking the dog, being so close to the coast, two minutes from Witch Wood – a Site of Special Scientific Interest - and just 20 minutes on foot from Fairhaven Lake and all that it offers, ” says the owner. “We’ve also enjoyed being a short walk from all the local shops, cafes and restaurants. The tree-lined streets of Lytham have a refined grandeur about them and the town is a lovely place to wander around.
“We have loved everything about living at 7 Church Drive – its privacy, location and the fact there is such a lovely feeling about this house. All the rooms are very bright and even on a miserable day each room seems to make the most of any light it captures. It’s hard to express what we feel about this house in so many words but it has worked well for our lifestyle.”
