Property description
The painted front elevation of the house has leaded light windows under a modillioned eaves cornice and exudes a gentle French influence attributable to the Reverend A C de Bourbel, who commissioned alterations in about 1900. The other elevations are of mellow brick with burnt headers all under pitched tiled roofs. It is Listed as being of Architectural or Historic Interest, Grade II.
The main part of the present house dates from the 17th century and it was lengthened and altered in the 18th century, but signs of ancient flint and stonework suggest that there was a house of importance here in medieval times.
The wonderful entrance gateway and adjoining high garden wall are Listed Grade II in their own right and date from the 18th century with later alterations.
