Good lighting in and around the property 'is essential'

Making sure that a home has great lighting both inside and outside the building can have numerous befits, one expert has stated.

It can range from providing a simple solution to locating door keys at the end of the working day to helping create a great ambience inside, explained Natalie Timmerman, spokeswoman for Light IQ.

"Consider you are arriving home after a day at work - it can sometimes be a fumble for your door keys and estimating where the lock is if you do not have enough immediate light," she explained.

The expert advised that it is "highly important" that a light source is available at the front door in the correct position, firstly for people to see their way in, and secondly to prevent unwanted callers attempting to enter the property.

Having a light in this area can act as a type of deterrent, though if exterior security floodlights are fitted, it is important to incorporate the facility of over-riding them when not required, so that the more comfortable decorative lighting is not spoiled, the specialist recommended.

The extent people will go to when securing their home was recently illustrated in a survey by More Than, which shows that over half of Brits are currently considering using booby traps and decoys to keep burglars at bay, as they believe these are more effective than some tried-and-tested deterrents.ADNFCR-1286-ID-801284820-ADNFCR
