Home improvement 'experiencing a renaissance'

4th Apr 2012

There is something of a home improvement renaissance occurring at the moment as people embark on household projects themselves as they look to boost their home values and enhance their living space, it has been observed.

According to Bernie Herlihy, deputy editor of Ideal Home Magazine, people are focusing on small areas of their home in turn, then redecorating and refreshing them to give them a new feel.

Although some homeowners are putting off the big jobs until they feel more confident about it, home decoration and interior design are arguably bigger than ever, she explained.

"People are tackling things themselves - there's a gross in people going to DIY classes, especially women. Anything to save money is worth exploring, and it's got a lot easier," Ms Herlihy noted.

Wallpapering is now a lot easier for people to do themselves, as things such as ready-pasted wallpaper are very helpful and mean the task is not quite as daunting.

There is also a broad range of materials and supplies for people to access, no matter which part of the house they are enhancing.

"In all areas of the homes, whether wallpaper and decorating stuff to bathroom suites, there's a lot of choice out there," the expert added.ADNFCR-1286-ID-801333823-ADNFCR
