Interior designers 'essential to a home makeover'

27th Jul 2012

There are many common mistakes people make when it comes to designing their home, but the main one is not employing an interior designer, one expert has stated.

Adrienne Chinn, managing director of Adrienne Chinn Designs, said that if homeowners are doing anything structural it is good to have a professional person working with them, as they are trained to know how to maximise space in the best way possible.

"They can introduce the proper contractors to the job, they can do a full budgeting for the job so that you know how far your budget will or won't go or what compromises or priorities you need to make," she explained.

Ms Chinn noted that an important part of the design stage is mapping out drawings of what the home will look like once it is completed, and this is something interior designers can help with.

She observed that many people who embark on anything themselves do not think drawings are very important, but the truth is the opposite.

"Designers can find good trade suppliers and help you save money on your materials and products so that you don't go out and pay retailer prices on everything," the expert added.

Ms Chinn said the number one issue is that people think that it is cheaper to do it themselves, but it this is not the case.
