Property sellers 'need to be competitive'

31st Jan 2012

People with property for sale in the UK need to be as competitive as possible to ensure their home sells in the weeks and months ahead, one specialist has advised.

UK property expert Selwyn Lim said that some property buyers are choosing to be "particularly picky" at the moment, which means that sellers need to up their game if they are to boost their chances of achieving a sale.

His comments came after HSBC reported that the generational divide in the UK property market is likely to cause something of a property stalemate in 2012, with some young people unable to buy and older homeowners unwilling to sell.

However, 12 per cent are thinking about moving home or getting on the housing ladder in the next six months, which means there are plenty of opportunities for sales, as long as they think about the best way to make their house appealing.

Mr Lim explained: "Buyers know that at the moment it is still very much a buyer's market. With the low levels of transactions and the difficulties in getting a mortgage compared to 2007, buyers do know that it is a buyer's market and so sellers need to be competitive."ADNFCR-1286-ID-801278248-ADNFCR
