Olympic Games 'have boosted interest in London property'

24th Aug 2012

The Olympic Games has had a significant impact on the number of people enquiring about property in London, particularly as far as prospective overseas buyers are concerned, it has been suggested.

London property expert Nick Marr said that, for overseas buyers, London has always been attractive, but the Games have spread the effect from central London to the outer reaches of east London and beyond.

"It feels more positive because of the Olympics, there is a positive vibe about London, and lots of people must have come to this country and thought 'I really like the feel of this place, maybe we should have investment here'," he commented.

Mr Marr spoke of one couple he knew that came from Australia and felt that UK house prices had not moved for years, so offered really good value compared to somewhere like Sydney.

"They were considering buying an investment property based upon what they'd seen in the Olympics in the few weeks that they were here," he added.

This feeling is being replicated and that other people feel like that as well, with London now feeling like a safe place to invest, similar to how Dubai was in the past, the expert concluded.
