UK property 'easy to buy' in some areas
1st Jun 2012
There are some areas of the UK where it is easy to buy property, and people hoping to get on the property ladder need to be aware of these pockets if they are to succeed, it has been advised.
Catherine Hearnden, director of MyMortgageDirect, said that there is a distinction between parts of the north-west and parts of Wales, but there are pockets in every area.
"Even in the south-east there are pockets where properties are much cheaper. You can pick up some bargains in some areas," she explained.
Her comments followed the publication of a report by Bloor Homes, which suggested first-time buyers in Dunstable are getting younger, with the majority of buyers of apartments in particular now under 30 – a trend echoed around the UK.
Ms Hearnden said it is too early to say it is a definite improvement in the number of younger people accessing the housing market, but is still good news.
"The increase in first-time buyers could have been because of the stamp duty holiday coming to an end, so they may have decided to get in quickly," she added.
The expert also suggested more and more people are getting money from parents to help with home purchases, which is stimulating the market.
