Insulation 'an easy way to boost house prices'

18th Nov 2011

One of the simplest ways for UK property owners to increase their home values is to have insulation installed, one specialist has pointed out.

Andrew Leech, executive director of the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC), said that house prices can be considerably increased by having it fully insulated with roof and cavity wall insulation as well.

That can also provide quite a reasonably-sized saving on heating bills, though householders also have to ensure the make the overall property attractive.

"You have got to make sure that the property has got good kerb appeal, [that] it looks good from the outside [and] it has got decent windows and preferably double glazed windows," he noted.

As far as the inside of the house is concerned, the kitchen and bathroom are important areas for consideration, with the kitchen becoming an "entertainment area" in modern times and so it has to be appealing.

If people are thinking about putting their house up for sale then they have got to make it look as normal as possible, and avoid any garish paintings, decorations or colour schemes running throughout the house.

"You want to make it a very neutral environment because people can relate to that more," Mr Leech explained. ADNFCR-1286-ID-801215642-ADNFCR
