Make buildings efficient to battle high bills

25th Oct 2012

High energy bills are likely to be commonplace this winter across UK property thanks to a number of energy providers including SSE and npower raising what they charge their customers.

However, those living in properties for sale could potentially make savings on their monthly expenditure by making sure they have an energy-efficient building that does not cost over the odds to keep warm.

According to the Society for Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB), there are a number of steps that people can take to raise the efficiency at home.

It said that keeping on top of repairs is vital, fixing roofs, guttering and damp problems straight away, as a dry home is a warm home.

The organisation also advised making sure to effectively insulate to keep the house well heated and reduce the need for the gas central heating to be switched on all evening.

Other tips include installing heating systems that are designed around the way that you use the property so that heat is not being wasted.

And for times when the weather gets far colder as winter sets in, it could even be a good idea to simply put on a woolly jumper and a pair of extra socks to keep yourself feeling warm throughout the evening.
