UK buyers increasingly likely to use online estate agents

20th Sep 2012

More buyers of properties for sale in the UK are now likely to make use of an online estate agent than ever before, a new report has discovered.

It has been the case in recent years that many former high street favourites such as travel agents, retail outlets and banks have been seeing an increase in the number of people choosing to use them online instead. Now estate agents could follow suit.

A survey from the House Network said that at the moment, one per cent of all home sales in the UK are carried out through an online platform.

However, this could see a sizeable increase in the years to come, with 38 per cent of people responding to the survey saying that they would be very likely to use these online services if given the option to do so.

The most popular reasons for using online estate agencies was the fact that a property can be seen by a wider audience (41 per cent of respondents), while 35 per cent said that cheaper agents fees would be important.

Graham Lock, director at House Network, said: "It is important that house sellers understand that using an online agent at a reduced cost does not mean they will receive an inferior service."
