West London 'most popular' for Olympic rentals

10th May 2012

West London is proving more popular than any other area of the capital for property rentals during the Olympic Games, a new report has revealed.

Research carried out by ViveUnique found that 89.5 per cent of bookings for the Olympic period are for homes outside of East London, despite this being the area with the easiest access to the sites of the events.

West London is the most popular area, with 37 per cent of all Olympic bookings, followed by North London, which has a 31.5 per cent share, and Central London, which has attracted 15.7 per cent of rentals.

Claire Whisker, founder and co-director of ViveUnique, said that many renters have calculated that they will be closer to London's major attractions, though some are choosing Camden and Islington in North London as a compromise.

"We're finding that the majority of visitors to London during July are teaming up an Olympic experience with a traditional trip to the capital. For this reason, they are choosing to stay in the better known, more tourist-driven locations," she added.

It comes after London property expert Michael Banks recently predicted that the effect that the upcoming London Olympic Games will have on rental prices in the capital is likely to be minimal, if felt at all.
