Well-designed kitchens 'boost home values'

23rd Apr 2012

New kitchens that are designed in the right way can help to significantly improve home values, one expert on the subject has pointed out.

Alexi Sugden, founder of Egerton Designs, said that kitchens are likely to be the biggest single investment in any refurbishment, and range in cost from around £3,000 from a high street supplier to as much as £50,000 for a bespoke project.

"A well-designed kitchen will greatly add value to your home so that when you come to move, the kitchen will always influence buyers and increase the speed of offers. A well-designed kitchen is worth the time, money and investment," she explained.

Before embarking on the project, property owners need to consider how much space they have and whether the floor is all one level or more.

Homeowners should also avoid neglecting the basics, as everyone needs kitchen cupboards, a sink, work surfaces and appliances, such as a fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine, so these all need to be included so as not to hamper home values.

People need to think about how much time they and their family are likely to be spending in the kitchen, as this will influence space planning and whether or not they will choose a table or an island, or neither, Ms Sugden stated.ADNFCR-1286-ID-801346537-ADNFCR
