Buy to let property 'can appeal to new investors'

8th Jul 2011

New property investors may find that buy to let housing presents them with one of the most attractive ways to get a foothold on the ladder.

That is according to Malcolm Harrison, independent property industry expert, who said that there is likely to be an increase in the number of new landlords in the coming months.

He explained that this will be because there are many people whose careers and ability to make money has not been affected by the economic downturn and they will be looking for investments.

It comes after Savills reported that prime London rents across all areas have been rising "well ahead" of inflation for at least the past 18 months.

According to the company, prime London rents rose by ten per cent in the past year and were up 1.8 per cent in the last quarter.

Mr Harrison said that this could make things more attractive for potential property investors in the coming weeks and months.

However, he noted that people need to be aware of what property investment entails, with the "mature investor" recognising that a buy to let investment is for at least ten years and possibly longer.

"It is something that they can control and they are not handing their money over to a fund manager; if you are a property investor or a buy to let investor, then you know exactly what is going on as you can see in it with your own eyes," the expert noted.ADNFCR-1286-ID-800616289-ADNFCR
