Is there much greenery in the area? Are the people friendly?

  • We have lived in the Yelverton area for over 25 years both at Dousland and Horrabridge. Yelverton has a truly rural feel with fantastic walks right on your doorstep. As well as having a good selection of small shops and a supermarket and garage, there are also 2 good pubs , a post office and churches. This combined with the convienience of the nearby towns of Tavistock (5 miles) and Plymouth (10 miles) The people are very friendly with a good community feel and as for greenery .....You are in the middle of one of the country's largest National Parks ! We could not imagine living anywhere else.....What's not to like about Dartmoor ????

  • We have lived in Horrabridge just out side Yelverton for over 20years, Horrabridge is a small villiage within easy reach of the nearby town of Tavistock, you have the moors on your doorstep, within Horrabridge you have a post office, two pubs, bakery, church and a local store. There is a local primary school in Horrabridge and one in Walkhampton. Yelverton has local shops, pubs, garage, pre schools and school. The area we live in Horrabridge in peaceful with lovely walks and wildlife on your doorstep.

  • First the good, useful range of shops and services-doctor, chiropodist, garage etc.Wide variety of social activities, from sports to toddlers to a relatively new cinema held on Saturday evenings in the church hall. Buckland Abbey (National Trust) is only a short drive away. The natives are friendly and helpful but with only one exception keep on the right side of nosey! Now the downside and it is a big one for which there is no remedy. I refer to the appalling rainfall- often constant for weeks or months on end. In fact twice the rainfall of nearby Plymouth. I often wonder if we have an extra high level of anti depressant prescriptions here. If you are considering a move to Devon there are many places where it is possible to have a better/drier quality of life. Think very carefully before opting for the edge of Dartmoor- the stunning scenery is often blanketed by endless mist/drizzle/torrential rain.

  • Hi, We would suggest that you get in touch with local estate agents in order to get some background about the area. You can search for agents using the ‘find agents’ tab on the top of the Zoopla Page. We hope this helps.
