Will I be a Second home buyer after equity transfer

Hi, me and my wife each had 50% share in our previous property. I have now transferred my 50% equity on wife's name. If I buy another home ( just on my name), will I be a second home buyer? I am asking because of changes in Stamp duty for second home buyers from April 2016.

  • There is currently a consultation on the detail of the new rules. On the face of it I suspect that yes, as a couple you will be considered a second home oner. Only if you were living apart and could prove that you had separate establishments might there be an exception.
