  • Well, I lived in Ramsgate and worked in Margate, and had friends in Westgate. Lovely little town, great cinema and second hand shops. Nice tea rooms and auction house. In general a great sleepy town. And with Margate down the road with the new Turner Contemporary centre, it will soon be the place to be! But if you want more of a humdrum, then Thanet can get a small very quickly, which is why I moved to London, but I would definitely consider moving back in a few years.

  • Ramsgate!!! I was born there, lived there until 17 and couldnt get away from it quick enough. Crime is rife, unemployment is one of the highest in the country, very little to do for entertainment/leisure. Town, besides the harbour, is very depressing with all the main shops moving out of the area and up to Westwood. Grot shops by the dozen. In the street you see a higher proportion of single women, swearing and cursing, with loads of children in toe and a high proportion of homeless. I have visited family in the area regularly over the last 30 years and have seen the place go down hill over this time, and although things started to pick up in the boom session when developers thought they were onto a good thing renovating all the delapidated houses, hoping to entice Londoners, the neglect is beginning to show once again. Add the fact that Ramsgate is now under the flight path from Manston, I cannot find one thing I would say in favour of living there. I cannot believe the council would invest millions in an art centre in Margate when Thanet itself is so unpleasant to visit and what good is this going to do the residents there when the majority of the working force are spending their days in the job centres, to no avail - there are very few jobs available and if they are they are lower paid or part-time. No I would not recommend anybody moving to Ramsgate. FYI. I now live abroad, so I have on what to base my opionions. I suggest the council get their priorities right and invest in the people/jobs in Thanet not in ventures like this that will probably end up by being another white elephant,

  • We moved down from London 5 years ago and have never, ever, regretted it. On the west cliff we have Grammar schools and a Waitrose and are minutes from the beautiful blue-flag beaches. The plusses outweigh the negatives about 5 to 1. Like anywhere, you create your own psycho-geography wherever you live. We have the new High Speed 1 train that gets me into St Pancras in under 90 minutes throughout the week. Weekends are spent on the boat in the harbour. Add in the stunning architecture that can still be picked up for a relative song and you can see why Ramsgate is so popular with young professional London families.

  • I would suggest that you look at the local authorities’ website or to see what the crime statistics etc for this area are. You can also look at the local tourist board website which gives you an up to date overview of the area. I would also visit the area and ask some locals.

  • Hi, We would suggest that you get in touch with local estate agents in order to get some background about the area. You can search for agents using the ‘find agents’ tab on the top of the Zoopla Page. We hope this helps.
