Ex-council Flat Mayday Road

I'm a FTB, offer accepted on this 1 bed top (7th) floor flat. Opposite hospital, great views to Crystal Palace but tatty needing new kitchen/bathroom/carpets etc etc. Some people think it should increase in value with Westfield Centre etc, others say it will be hard to sell on if not many other flats are privately owned (I have no clue about this) - I'm feeling nervous about making a mistake but really like the flat as I think it has great potential and I cant afford anything else!!. Any/all advice welcomed!

  • One problem to be aware of with ex-council property is that you may be faced with high maintenance costs if the council decides to do major works. No so much of a problem if you are buying to let and can offset these charges against rental income but not so good if you are an owner-occupier.
