Can I buy house in the UK even if I am only on a work permit visa?

I am not a UK citizen but I am living here in UK on a working permit visa. I don't have a permanent visa yet. My question is, am I allowed to buy a house here? Will the bank allow me to mortgage it?

  • Yes, anyone can buy anything in UK! As for mortgage I don't know. I imagine your short visa will be a problem but you may be able to get a bad mortgage with say 50% LTV.

  • You don’t need to have a permanent visa to buy property in the UK and there are no restrictions on foreign citizens. You can even get a mortgage with a UK bank, but the bank’s decision will depend on how much you earn and if you can provide the right paperwork.
