Using the same conveyancer

My sister has suggested that we could save money by using the same firm of solicitors for conveyancing, to sell our mother's house ( now ours) as well as buying our own homes. Has any one used this idea to good effect? The only disadvantage I can see is if there is a hold up with one of the properties, the others may be delayed. Is this a (particularly) good or bad idea?

  • Hi - probably best to talk to a few local solicitors about this - but apart from potential data protection issues, I don´t see there being a massive hold up as long as your solicitor has the capacity to handle the case load and be willing to manage both sales processes simultaneously.

  • My understanding is you are selling your mother's house, and from part of the proceeds, you are both buying homes and wish completion on the sale and two purchases to be simultaneous? And to save money use the same solicitor... I would suggest that using the same solicitor is a very good idea, as they will be fully aware of the need to match completions. Hiring different solicitors could in fact, cause delays.

  • Hi, Good idea, see if you can negotiate their fee down a bit.
