Cutting grass and lawn mowers.

I am renting and it is my responsibility to cut the grass, a electric mower was supplied as part of the house, in the inventory but now does not work. The owner is not willing to repair and says I will have to pay for a gardener to cut the grass. Is this legal?

  • In my opinion this is a bit of a grey area. Landlords can contract out of their repairing obligations when it comes down to appliances, although I would never advise one of my clients to do so. I certainly don't think this is unlawful, however, whether or not he is right to give you this response will fall largely down to the wording in your tenancy agreement. Personally I would seek independent legal advice.
