Ending contract with estate agent

We put our house up for sale in June. We have had three viewings in that time and very poor service from estate agent. Our mortgage is in arrears and we are being pushed to sell via " advised voluntary sale" However our estate agent says we cannot do this until fees are paid. We need urgent advice. Anyone out there been in similar difficulties??

  • Sounds very strange. Most estate agents will only charge once the property is sold (i.e. exchanged and completed). If you have a solicitor acting on your behalf, I would have a chat with them. If not, go to your local Citizens Advice Bureau and they will be able to look through any agreements/contracts.

  • Hi Audrey, Check the contract which should state when fees are due. Sounds wrong to me though. If you need a definite sale maybe try a professional buyer such as House Buy Fast who will pay cash in 7 days or so and won’t charge (albeit the offer will be lower than a standard buyer). Good luck. Jonathan :-)
