Issued wrong lettings contract

Connells Estate Agency issued my tenant with a 12 month contract instead of a 6 month contract and we can't get the tenant to leave. Connells have accepted liability. What can I expect to happen? I have made a complaint to the Ombudsman

  • Hello Karen - you may be able to get some compensation here. As they have accepted liability, perhaps it´s worth talking to senior management about the situation (rather than going to court)? You may be able to work out some kind of compensation package.

  • As mentioned by Property Solvers, try to deal with this internally first. As you're clearly looking to complain, they should have really offered you a copy of their internal complaints procedure. Once you've followed this you'll be able to escalate the matter to their regulatory body (if you remain dissatisfied). Should their regulatory body deem it necessary, they may fine the agent and/or order them to pay you compensation.
