  • Depends whereabouts in Weston! We live on the hillside and love it - but we wouldn't live on the flat. We found the neighbours very friendly and there are a lot of people from The Midlands living down here (we came from the Midlands too). Lots to do in Weston and seems to be improving its image - will have the new pier next year. Town does have a problem with 'druggies' as we have a lot of rehabiliation centres here and folks get sent from far and wide to here and they don't leave! But I personally think Weston is quite switched on to this and talks openly about it in the papers so its not undercover like in some places. Beautiful to live near the sea - we live nearer Sand Bay than Weston seafront - which we love because Sand Bay is much quieter and not as commercialised which suits us and the children. We also live right next to the woods which is great for walks and has fantastic views from the top of the hill. Weston has lots of schools including 4 secondary and several more just on the outskirts - plenty of chose. We moved here from The Midlands and I would say it feels fresher here. We were all very welcomed and, other than leaving family behind, we're very settled. Most employed people in Weston have to commute to Bristol for work as there isn't enough business in Weston for all it's residents. Weston housing wise has grown massively since we moved here in 2001 and appears to be continuing to do so.

  • I live right in the town centre, it's not a completely bad place to live. The majority of the time it's fairly quiet, no real trouble if you keep yourself to yourself, though you do read in the papers about them building a new rehab centre every other week or so it seems! On the whole though, the high street is small but has all you'd need on it, the supermarkets are fairly close to town, traffic is rarely a big problem (only on bank holidays or the summer break) and there's a lot to do. It has a bowling alley, cinema, two theatres, lots of shops, pubs, restaurants, bars etc, though no real clubs anymore. And they have lovely annual events, the sandcastle competition on the beach is beautiful, there's the carnival in the Winter with beautiful lit up floats at night, and Christmas shopping is great. Nightlife is ok, though I wouldn't recommend heading out over the weekends as there's usually one crime or another committed in the town centre of a Saturday night.

  • I moved from Bristol 5 years ago basically because it was cheaper to buy a flat here than in Bristol. I live on the hillside area too and it's lovely. My neighbours are lovely, friendly and chatty - which I love. They keep an eye out and make sure I'm okay. When I lived in Bristol I would just about get a nod from a neighbour. I'm now looking to buy a house in Weston as I wouldn't dream of moving back to Bristol. Lots of fresh air and developments going on making it an interesting place to live. You get the odd weirdo (drink, drugs) but they're normally too spaced out to cause any harm.

  • Hi, We would suggest that you get in touch with local estate agents in order to get some background about the area. You can search for agents using the ‘find agents’ tab on the top of the Zoopla Page. We hope this helps.

  • I don't know if this forum is closed, but here goes. We live in Surrey and plan on retiring to WSM in a year. Meanwhile we are purchasing a lovely large apartment with garage in the hill areas at the end of town ie Upper Kewstoke Road. We think the area is lovely. Yes, you do have crowds in the town in the summer, but that's a good thing. Has anyone been to Margate recently? It's dying on its feet. I would prefer people on drugs, rather than alcohol as people who are drunk are more likely to cause trouble, has anyone ever seen anyone stoned and fighting? The hospitals all over the country are full of drunks on Friday/Saturdays nights, not young people who smoke a bit of dope etc. So it's WSM for us ole fogies who still like to rock n roll and live life:) Great to have forums isn't it? Patsy
