What effect does fitting solar panels have on my property?

I am considering having solar panels fitted. How does this affect the resale value and the saleability of the property?

  • This would be an added benefit when selling your house, not necessarily resulting in a higher price but definitely making it more desireable compared to the competition. After all you are offering them free electricity. If you are interested in having solar panels I work with a company that fits them for just £500 Please feel free to contact me to discuss. Jim

  • It will definitely be a plus when selling, not too sure if it will add value. But it should make your house more saleable.

  • Photovoltaic panels can supplement electrical supplies to homes and you may be able to sell excess energy to the National Grid. The system should be properly installed and coverred by a guarantee which can be assigned should you sell the property. You probably won't need planning consent but probably will need Building Regulation approval: you should check with your local council. If your home is a listed building there could also be difficulties. I know of no evidence that the investment would add to the property's value. Obtaining a system free should be considered, please see the link below.

  • As an estate agent ... it does nothing for the value of the house but it helps the environment and saves you money on your bills
