Buying a part exchange house from a property developer

We have offered the asking price on a house which is being sold by a well known developer and this was accepted. We have now got our survey reports back and have discovered that the property needs rewiring at a cost of £3,800. This wasnt something that we calculated or we were made aware of i have approached the agent to try and negotiate this but they said that part ex properties are 'bought as seen' and they are not prepared to negotiate is this the case when buying part ex proprties?

  • Harsh, but probably the norm. Most property sales are subject to contract, something you could have stipulated from the off was that it was subject to a satisfactory survey, but they might not have accepted your offer with this condition. The only comfort is often that these properties are sold at a more reasonable price to get them sold quickly.
