  • Hi YelizInce, As you know, it can unfortunately be quite difficult to find a house or flat where the landlord accepts benefits for a number of reasons. These include the fact that demand means they are more likely to be able to fill their houses without going through housing associations, and because regulation changes meant that they were no longer paid housing benefit directly by councils. However, there are ways that you can find what you are looking for in London. One way is to use the search option on Zoopla. You can search for houses in the London area that have all the specifications you are looking for. Once you have done this, you can use the advanced options at the side and look for terms such as DSS accepted or benefit accepted to bring up a list. Alternatively, you can ask you local council for the contact details for landlords that accept people on benefit, as they will keep such details on file for this very reason. Thanks, Scott

  • Go to visit any agents you register with so they can see you and make a judgement. Part of the problem is that all tenants are tarred with the same brush. Unfair but true. Zoopla's answer is spot on too.

  • Hello Yeliz, Well if the tenants receive local area housing benefit, many private landlords have insurance policies that cover them against tenants not paying rent or deliberately damaging the property. The returns available can be phenomenal and many landlords have made large fortunes out of letting to tenants receiving housing benefit. I found this out after a having a discussion with a Plaza Estate letting agent in my area.
