Which property to buy?

Any property experts out there? Me and my partner are planning to buy our first property and we also are planning to start our family in the next 3 /4 years. We live in a lovely area near the park in zone 3, but we can only afford 1 bedroom property here. We considered moving a bit further to High Barnet to zone 5 and getting a 2 bedroom flat in a New build apartment with help to buy scheme, or getting a one bed in our area. We are not sure what will be a better investment? 1 bedroom property in zone 3 for 360k or new build 2 bedroom property for 425k in zone 5? Both properties are near the station. We’ve observed that the one bed flats in our area are actually deflating. It’s really confusing and we are just not sure what will be a good decision for our near future. Any advice would be most welcome, thanks so much in advance.

  • Hello - predicting house prices is always very difficult, especially across Greater London. If it is going to be your home, I would focus on buying something that you are going to be comfortable in and genuinely afford. The price will eventually go up wherever you buy (but the pace of growth may differ). Looking at your situation, a 2 bed flat would probably be a better idea for when you have your child?

  • Have you tried looking at Ickenham? It's quite close to London but in the countryside (Colne Valley)
