Good areas to live near London?

I want to move to a more rural location with good schools and fast train journeys into London where property prices are reasonable. Which areas do you suggest?

  • Hi absowdud, For places where there are shorter journey times into London and fast trains, I think you'd be looking to some of the commuter towns in Essex, which can see anything between half an hour and an hour and a half journeys. Some further afield commuter areas will have longer train times, which is not preferable. The larger areas in Essex like Clacton, Hornchurch, Harlow and Harwich will all offer all that you are looking for in terms of having a shorter journey to work and paying far less for a house than you might have done in London and having a range of schools. Essex also has the Lakeside shopping centre for all your retail needs without having to go to the capital on your days off. Other popular parts of the country include some Surrey towns. Croydon, for example, is becoming far more popular with the commuting fraternity.
