How much income do you need to have in order to rent a flat?

I earn around £1200 per month right now and looking to rent 2 bedroom flat which costs around £950 around my area. So will i be able to rent flat? Is it compulsory to show your income while renting flat?

  • Hi, It will vary slightly depending on the referencing company used but to pass ours an applicant will need to earn 2.5x the rental income, or if they earn between 1.5 and 2.5% they will need a guarantor. Hope that helps.

  • Hi. I came here with the same question, because someone told me that you have to make twice the rent, and I thought that maybe is not true, as I know people who spend around 75% of their salary on rent and bills. It is shocking to read that it can be even more, up to 2.5 times one's salary! This is a real shame, because I make roughly £2,000 per month, which is a decent income about 3 times the minimum salary, but apparently I can not afford a decent one bed studio for myself in the area where I work (London, N4).
