Could I rent a property while working as a temp?

I'm sharing with friends now but was made redundant from my permanent job with a local estate agent, I've only been able to find temporary work. It's a rolling contract and could be made permanent, but could I rent another property while I'm only temping?

  • It may be more difficult, but the answer is yes it is possible, if you can afford the rent. Many agents use a professional company to carry out the referencing... this is often done on a points system like a credit application. You may be required to supply a guarantor (someone who signs a legal document to cover the rent if you cannot). Other landlords may ask for 6 months rent up front, which proves too difficult for many tenants.

  • You may also get Housing benefit to top up the rent you can't afford to cover from your income - but some landlords & agents won't accept DSS. Good luck

  • You can definitely rent a property while temping but you may be asked to provide a guarantor.
