Is there any way I can possibly get my own flat at 17?

I just need to start a new life for me and my boyfriend and personal reasons.

  • Hi SamLouWoll, You certainly can rent a flat when you are 17, but it will be a little more complicated than for people who are older than you, as it is not likely that you would have a previous rental record and subsequently will have little in the way of references. This means that alongside all of the normal documentation that is needed for renting, you will also have to make sure you have a guarantor. This is someone who can ensure that your rent is paid in the event that you cannot afford to do so yourself or default for any reason at all. Other documents you will need include things like proof of employment and income to show that you are able to afford to live in the property you are applying for, and some with property to let will also ask that you provide some form of character reference since you will not have previous landlords to vouch for you. Many thanks, Scott

  • Hi, Yes, as long as you have a guarantor and a proof of income to support the rental price of the property then this should be ok. We hope this helps.
