Chesham, what is it like?

I am looking to rent a house in Chesham, Waterside. I am not familiar with the area and so far I have heard/read more cons than pros about the area in general. What is the neighbourhood like? Poor? Chavs? Is it safe to raise a family?

  • Hi Mony, You can find out the information you require easily. Firstly I would suggest going to the Police.UK website and entering the post code of the area you are looking in. This will bring up all the statistics in the area of what crime has occured and how often. In terms of pros and cons I would just read up on the town on Google. Look at the Council website, local forums and anything else you can find out about the town. Good luck with the move and I hope the advice helps. :-)

  • Hi Mony55, Chesham is a great town. I lived there, in Waterside for 5 years and loved it. It's a safe area generally, though it's a fairly mixed neighbourhood with people from all walks of life and backgrounds (not as snooty as Chesham Bois or Amersham). What was lovely was having Chesham Moor opposite - lots of green, open space, a place to go for a walk, fly a kite, walk a dog or play frisbee. There's also a lovely walk along the river to the lakes. Right on the corner there's the open air pool, which is great in summer and a small gym. There's a play area next to this for kids which has been recently refurbished. The area has a few spots which need attention (closed down pubs being redeveloped) but generally the area feels well looked after and the people around about are friendly and considerate.
