Is it possible to rent without guarantee?

I want to know whether it is possible to rent a place in England without somebody having to guarantee for it, when you are a student from another country? It is impossible for me to find anyone I know in England with a steady income, and at the same time I am unable to live in halls of residence at my university. Is there anything I can do? Does it make a difference when renting through an agent and renting from a private owner? Thank you!!

  • Some agents/landlords may take you if you offer a bigger deposit or more rent in advance.

  • Yes if you give a large deposit which can be negotiated with the letting agent/landlord

  • Some agents will allow you to rent without a guarantor if you pay your rental amount upfront, e.g. paying six months rental in advance, then paying your rent every six months.
