How long it takes to find and settle a renting agreement in London?

Hello, I'm moving to London in February to start a new job in 2nd March. Thinking to fly to london to find a house and settle everything and fly back to my country to move my stuff. Is one week enough to take care of everything? Is advisable to find a real state agent with some pre-choosen properties to see? Any recommendations of a good and serious agent?

  • A few years ago I was in a similar situation when moving from Singapore to the UK. Based on my experience, I recommend doing some research in advance on the Internet to understand the neighbourhoods which are convenient for your workplace. Then come to London for one week in January to view houses in those neighbourhoods. One week should be enough time for you to see a selection of available properties and to make a selection. Once you have made a selection, it normally takes two or three weeks to complete the reference checks and agree the rental contract. That can be done via email while you are back in your country. Hopefully these arrangements will be completed by the end of February so you can move into your new home.
