Payment method for deposit and first month's rent

What payment methods are generally accepted for a deposit and first month's rent in London? How commonly accepted are credit cards or international money transfers/wires? I am relocating from the US and am hoping to secure a flat/lease before I am able to open a UK bank account. I will have a letter from my firm proving my employment and salary, so hope that will be sufficient for credit worthiness. I could also bring landlord referrals. I'd appreciate any advice! Thanks, Stephen

  • Hello - it would probably be a good idea to speak with some local lettings agents about this. You may need some form of guarantor in place to ensure that the landlord has sufficient security. It may also be an idea to rent somewhere temporarily until you have a bank account and you are more settled. Most landlords would want to see a steady form of income - so if you have proof of this (perhaps via a letter from a future employer), this will certainly help. Also, be sure to check the rental section on Zoopla to make sure you are paying a fair price.
