Credit check - can I still rent?

Hi there, I have a terrible credit score as I poorly managed it in the past. I currently have no debts though. My boyfriend and I are looking to rent. His credit score is pretty much impressive. I am scared that we won't be able to rent out because of me. Any advice?

  • Hello - it can make things more tricky, but certainly not impossible. If your boyfriend is happy to have the tenancy in his name (and he can afford to take full responsibility) then that may be the best way to move forward. Alternatively, you could try and put your name as well but the landlord / letting agent may ask for a guarantor to be in place.

  • In short, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. At the time of applying for my tenancy i too had a "poor" rating, but was still able to secure the house. All factors are taken into account, being able to afford to pay in the first instance is always a massive plus.
