Would you allow pets if I rent a property?

I want to rent but I need to know if I can house my dog there or not.

  • Hi Una30, As you will no doubt be aware, it can unfortunately be quite difficult to find anyone who will let you a flat or a house if you have a pet. This is mainly down to demand at the moment. If homes are sitting empty for a long time, landlords will feel pressured to take on someone with a dog or cat just to fill the property. However, at the moment they find it easier than ever to get tenants, and this means they won't take the risk of letting to someone with an animal because of the chance they might experience damage to walls, floors and furniture. There are things you can do, though. Asking landlords if they accept pets can be a good way to go, while you might even offer to let them meet the dog to see it is well behaved. If you have had a tenancy in the past with your dog, ask your other landlord for a reference that attests to the fact there was no damage caused. Many thanks, Scott
