Credit History Checks

I have a good income but 2 years ago I had a default on credit due to Divorce. What credit history do agents require, in order to satisfy the reference checks?

  • Hi RedKiteFS, It can be hard to get a flat or a house through an agent if you have a bad credit rating, but the good news is that it's not impossible. Some agents do not even carry out a credit check at all. Even if they do, there are still ways to get around this barrier that you can look at. For example, if you have a guarantor who can provide a letter to say they will be legally responsible if you do not pay, then you will be in a much stronger position with the agent. In addition to this, you might look at bringing references from former landlords (if you have rented before) to say that you were a reliable tenant who always paid their rent on time. And if you have a full-time job, it can be worth bringing proof of your income as a way to show that you can afford to pay your rent monthly. Many thanks, Scott
