I'm paying too much rent, who do I contact? The agents say it's right but the house next door is £75 a month cheaper.

  • Just because you're paying more than your neighbour it doesnt mean you're being overcharged. You agreeed to pay £X amount when you signed your contract. I assume the house next door is now for rent and showing at a cheaper rent than yours?

  • It may be that the tenant next door has been there for a long time in which case the landlord may not have increased the rent since the tenant moved in as they are a good tenant. At the end of the day it is a two way relationship. You could speak to your landlord and see if you agree to sign a longer contract if he/she might give you a better rate. Alternatively if you have a bit of cash in the bank, you could negotiate paying x months in advance (say three or six months or even a year at a time and he/she may give you a better rate.
