Can I rent my half share of the property?

I currently own half my property and the South Yorkshire Housing Association own the other half. Am I able to let my property, do you know?

  • Hi z2_NTY3NDY5Z2Fy, With something like this, it completely depends on the terms of your agreement with the housing association, so there can be no definitive answer unless you ask them specifically. What you have with a shared ownership scheme is a system where you own your percentage of the property, and you have an assured tenancy agreement with the housing association for the remaining portion that allows you to live there. Like with any other tenancy, it can be the case that the contract says you are not allowed to sub let the property - which this would be - and you can end up having legal issues if you choose to do so when it is not permitted. The best thing to do is check your agreement and then speak to the housing association. They will be able to advise you either way on whether or not this is allowed. Many thanks, Scott
