  • Hi Daffadil1, I assume you're looking to move into a home in the private rented market? If so, then it will be the case that there will always be a security deposit required. This is used by landlords and lettings agents to make sure that when a tenant moves out of a property, they can recoup any losses for items that may have gone missing or become broken during the length of the contract. Generally speaking, you will be looking at paying six to eight weeks worth of rent for a security deposit, although six is the case for the majority of tenants. This should normally be specified on property listings. If you're worried about costs though, you might also want to ask agents about the likes of maintenance charges and any tenant fees that apply to their letting to get details of everything up front. Many thanks, Scott

  • Normally 10% is a mortgage but the more you can put down the better.
