What are good areas in Luton?
I am looking to move into Luton as London is getting pricey so need to know what areas, roads or places to avoid buying my house. I can afford up to 230k max.

The airport side of the town is generally better - that means Wigmore, Putteridge, Stopsley, mainly postcode LU2. I lived just off Chesford Road in the Putteridge area for 3 years (moved due to work Dec2012) and never had any problems. Avoid the other side of town such as Leagrave, LU3 and similar. With a 230k budget you can certainly get a nice 3/4 bed house with gardens and parking around the Stopsley area. Also, see what you can get for your money around Hitchin - a lovely market town just 10 minute drive from that side of Luton - one of our favourite places to visit when we lived in Luton - we always wished we could have afforded a house around there.

If you are commuting back to London them Leagrave is probably the key area to look at. Good quality housing within a 5 min walk to the station. 3 bed terraces from about 210k, semis from 230k and detached from 270k
Other good areas are brammingham, bushmead, Barton hills, stopsley/wigmore.
Round green is walkable to Luton Central station 10/15 min walk. 3 bed terraces from about 210k

Good areas - stopsley, wigmore, Leagrave, bramingham, bushmead, wardown park area, old Bedford road, Limbury, Saints, putteridge.
Ok areas if budget is tight, sundon park, birds estate, poets, Luton and Dunstable borders, Dunstable is ok but very run down.
Avoid marsh farm and dallow. Some of the ex council estates are ok, such as Farley hill, and increasingly hockwell ring despite the reputation of the 90s
Overall Luton seems to be improving with a lot of new investment.
