Hello, we are hoping to move to St.Johns Road in the very near future. We are both mid thirties and looking to start a family, what are the local schools like and does Boxmore have a 'village feel' / sense of close community? All answers appreciated. Thank you.

  • I would suggest that you look at the local authorities’ website or to see what the crime statistics etc for this area are. You can also look at the local tourist board website which gives you an up to date overview of the area. I would also visit the area and ask some locals.

  • My sister lived in Boxmoor with her family most of her married life. She thought highly of it. She moved there when Hemel first became a new town in the late 50s I think. Both her 2 children were educated there and she was very happy with any schools she used Her daughter went on to University and has now got a masters degree. She too, lives in Australia and had a family and still works for BP. Hope this helps My sister emigrated to Australia with her husband in 1998. . I lived in Hemel about 7 years ago and miss it terribly. never should have left .I moved to Cambridgeshire. Hemel is now too expensive to move back to.

  • You will be disappointed if you think Boxmoor is a village in the recognised form, i.e. village green, pond, church, pub. It is a district of a large town which has now lost any community feeling it may have had 60 years ago.

  • I lived in Hemel for over 10 years. I now live in Cambridgeshire. I miss Hemel so much that I am trying to go back but the price of property is stopping me. I lived in Adeyfield HH. Loved it there..Would go back tomorrow if I could.. My sister lived in Boxmoor most of her married life brought up her 2 children. Schools are very good.. June, my neice, got through all her exams ended up at West Herts Uni and got her masters degree. She now works for BP. She and my sister now live in Perth Australia and have been there since 1998. They love it there. You will not regret moving there and I envy you both. Best of luck Rita

  • Fields End is a lovely area, parking better than Boxmoor. Boxmoor nice with the Moor, but you must have your own parking, as people park here for the station so gets very busy. Good schools
