  • Yes, Millmead, Dane Valley, Some Cliftonville from Ethelbrt Road to Warwick Road, all high tenneted areas with high crime rates. Plus a small area behind the Station called Meregate.

  • Nowhere in this trio of seaside towns is difficult to live compared to London. Margate is a highly populated seaside town and so the crime rate is inevitably higher, I have lived there happily for more than 5 years, no problem. The face of the town is changing to a 'cafe culture' this will of course take it's time, the rewards will come, effort from local people and investment from local council are all around.

  • I would suggest that you look at the local authorities’ website or to see what the crime statistics etc for this area are. You can also look at the local tourist board website which gives you an up to date overview of the area. I would also visit the area and ask some locals.

  • There are pockets which are less desirable to live in. I think the first post named the usual culprits. However many people live in those areas and have never had a bad word to say about them. It depends on your family situation and whether you're happy to live in a culturally diverse area as some people find it hard to get used to.

  • As noted on this forum there are areas I wouldn't want to live in Margate. There again I have a choice and a lot of families, not only in Margate, don't have a choice. I live here and trouble hasn't come my way. I find the local people friendly unlike many suburban sprawls where people just don't acknowledge each other in the daily grind. Many areas are becoming culturally diverse and we would serve ourselves well by accepting others' cultures and different ways of life. Having said that, late night brawls, litter louts, foul language and antisocial behaviour is not acceptable anywhere whatever your nationality. Margate is having to reinvent itself as Westwood Cross has sabotaged the High Street and local shops popularity. But there is so much more to Margate, especially over the last couple of years with recent developments. It means different things to different people.
