What is the safest, quietest area in Reading for a single woman living on her own, please?

I am looking to buy a house in Reading (preferably East side) - max budget £190k. Not knowing Reading that well I would like some advise on where might be the safest and quietest areas to consider. I have seen a property I like in RG1 and really quite the like being near the Kennet... is this advisable?

  • Generally the East Side, probably consider the Woodley and Earley satellites. You lose the proximity to the Kennet but most people would choose to commute into the centre.

  • For a single female, I would recommend Lower Earley or Earley (RG6) as a suitable area with good links into Reading town centre and accessible local facilities. Although Lower Earley is reasonably close to the M4 it is a relatively safe and close knit community. I would recommend speaking to the local Authorities i.e. Council and Thames Valley Police regarding crime rates in the local area. Please don’t hesitate in contacting me for further information on the local area.

  • I have lived in Reading all my life, some of the Victorian Terraces along the kennet are lovely and quiet, most of the suburbs are also a nice place to live, a lot will be dependant on what type of property you wish to buy, Lower Earley is mainly 1980s built property, most of the other suburbs are a mixture of all types and age of property. Do you need transport links ie rial or road. My advice would be to look around the area you like at different times and days and get a really good feel for it yourself so that you can buy with confidence. Good Luck
