Estate Agent advertising fees

My house has been on the market for 14 weeks and has not sold and I have now decided not to sell it. My contract with my estate agent ends in 2 weeks, after it has expired if I ask it to be taken off the market do I still have to pay their advertising fees?

  • It would tell you in the contract that you signed.

  • Do check your contract as this will tell you fully. There are estate agents that charge when completed or removed, however most do not. You could of course phone and ask directly, they have an obligation to tell you - wouldn't say your name just yet though if you know what I mean.

  • Details of any fees payable have to be clearly stated in the contract. If there is nothing in the contract you are in the clear. If it is not in the contract and they pressure you to pay "a fee", report them to your local Trading Standards office.
